The commonly used antibiotics include penicillin, streptomycin, gentamicin, etc. However, it should be noted that the addition of antibiotics should be cautious, as excessive use may have adverse effects on cells.

  • Q:What is the function of trypsin added to the culture medium?

    Pancreatic enzymes are mainly used for cell digestion and passage in culture media. Pancreatic enzymes can degrade the extracellular matrix, allowing cells to detach from the bottom of the culture bottle and promoting cell division and proliferation. During the passage process, the action of trypsin can assist in cell isolation and passage operations.

  • Q:Is trypsin and collagenase acting the same?

    To separate cells from each other, enzymes can be used to digest proteins that adhere between cells, such as collagen, laminin, fibronectin, elastin, etc. The enzymes used in the textbook are trypsin or collagenase, and the "or" here does not mean arbitrary selection because the target of action of these two enzymes is not the same.
